Should the Republican Party Die?

Is Donald Trump the cancer inside the body of the Republican party that will kill it eventually? As outrageous as the question may sound to Trump supporters, it is not unreasonable. Trump has been indicted for 91 felony counts, accused of rape in the E. Jean Carroll case, found guilty of business fraud in New York, and spouts progressively more worrisome rhetoric, including racism, threats to prosecutors, and intimidation.

Unfortunately, given the GOP’s continued embrace of Trump, the ex-president’s career is not over. He will likely win his party’s nomination for another stint in the White House. That is worrisome. It is also why those of us who have dismissed the Republican party as rotten have been wrong so often in predicting the party’s death.

Website
