An X-and-Mouse Game

The Road to X

To start telling Ferriz de Con’s version of events, we have to go back to last summer and an episode that registered on very busy industry radars. On June 25, Grupo Radio Centro and Grupo Siete jointly announced the early end of the former’s agreement to operate XHFO-FM 92.1 Mexico City, owned by the latter, which would terminate July 31, 2019. According to prior Radio Centro annual reports, in 2016, this agreement — in place since the early 1990s — had been extended to a new expiration date of November 30, 2020. The moving forward of the end of this agreement by 16 months came at a time when Radio Centro had announced it would divest non-core assets. Last year, the company sold its money-losing Los Angeles station to Meruelo Media, followed by the sale of most of its radio operations in Torreón and Durango to Multimedios.

Website
