Why White Math is Embracing Racism Despite the Cost to America
<p>What is white math? Before you start imagining numbers written in white chalk on a blackboard, I’m not talking in numerical terms. I mean socially. By my estimate, white math is embracing racism despite the cost to America. Even though it would be advantageous to condemn racism, many White people prefer maintaining the racial hierarchy by endorsing racial stereotypes to justify their relative privilege, supporting legislation that further marginalizes Black people, or removing their history and experiences from the public sphere. Perhaps these White people don’t realize that a divided country cannot stand any more firmly than a three-legged chair.</p>
