Why You Should Use OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP)

Open Core Legacy Patcher is an unsupported update by Apple, made by the community and fans of the Mac. This program allows you to run an unsupported operating system on a 2008 Mac to a 2017 Mac. For example, the 2008 iMac with a core 2 duo and 8 gigs of ram can only run up to El Capitan. El Capitan stopped receiving software updates in 2017. By using this program, you are able to upgrade to the latest macOS 14 Sonoma.

There are some risks to Open Core Legacy Patcher, such as losing data, corrupting the Mac, and not being able to get support from Apple. Two of these problems can be worked around. If you accidentally corrupt the Mac, you are able to restore it to its previous operating system. The other risk that can be worked around is losing data. If you have a time machine back up, you’re able to reload into that time machine back up. Some of the time Apple will also help you with an unsupported operating system on a Mac. As I have had experience with this recently. I needed help connecting my phone to my Mac for continuity camera. They were able to help me do it wired instead of wirelessly, knowing full well that the Mac is running an unsupported operating system.
