<p>Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student, was approached by Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson at a local bar. McKinney and Henderson offered Shepard a ride home but instead drove to a remote area. Shepard was discovered 18 hours later and succumbed to his injuries six days after the attack.
