“Live Your Life to The Fullest, Don’t Leave Any Unlived Life Behind.” ~ Dr. Irvin Yalom

Living and death are significant themes in his book “Becoming Myself,” which I read recently after reading several of Dr. Yalom’s other books. These references were never depressing or difficult for me. I have long been a fan of Yalom’s work because of his exceptional talent for conveying thoughts honestly and humorously. Dr. Yalom has an impressive network of close connections in science, medicine, psychotherapy, literature, and psychiatry, which speaks volumes about his intellectual rigor and openness to new ideas.

Born to Russian immigrants who worked their way up to opening a grocery store, Dr. Yalom spent his formative years in a cramped apartment above the family business. There, he endured a diet of rats and roaches until he was fourteen years old, when the family moved to a cleaner, more spacious home. When he was fifteen, Irvin met Marilyn, the woman who would later become his lifelong sweetheart.
