Metro Line 1: The Ghost Station
<p>Madrid is known for having one of the oldest and largest underground metro systems in the world. Line 1, the first metro constructed in the city, officially opened to the public on October 31, 1919.</p>
<p>Line 1 ran through the heart of the city, from Cuatro Caminos, just north of the center, to Puente de Vallacas, the southern edge of the ever-expanding city center.</p>
<p>The original 8 stops were, from north to south: Cuatro Caminos, Sol, Gran Vía, Tribunal, Bilbao, Chamberí, Iglesia and Ríos Rosas.</p>
