Exploring Landscapes with QGIS: Geomorphological Analysis for Environmental Health and Impact Assessment

The geomorphological analysis is an essential component of environmental health studies, as it reveals the landscape’s characteristics and geological history. By understanding the terrain’s relief, slope, geometric proportions, position, and height, researchers can determine its potential uses, pollution transport capacity, vulnerability to natural events, and epidemiological processes related to geological systems (health geology). In this article, we will demonstrate how to use QGIS for geomorphological analysis, focusing on the importance of these analyses for environmental health and environmental impact assessment. We will cover acquiring and importing a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), visualizing the DEM, and creating topographic profiles, hillshades, 3D models, and contour lines.
