The End of the Republican Party (Part 2)

I don't claim to be clairvoyant, but looking ahead to the fate of the Republican Party is becoming ever more apparent. I wrote weeks ago about The End of the Republican Party, which includes the history of other political parties ending in America. The first step I predicted was an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, and that moment has now arrived.

To be clear, an impeachment inquiry isn't a real thing. You're either impeached, or you're not in the same way you can't be a little bit pregnant. The inquiry announced by Kevin McCarthy is an attempt to maintain his tenuous position as Speaker of the House while the wolves within his Party aren't just at the door; they're in the house, or House if you will.

The problem with giving ravenous wolves a little red meat is that they keep looking for something to eat unless you satisfy their hunger. That next thing will be shutting down the government in less than a month, which is easily avoidable, but they won't be able to help themselves.

The impeachment light won't end with an inquiry. The only possible next move on that front is an impeachment vote, which will lead to having a trial in the Senate, which even Republican Senators don't want. This inquiry is merely a continuation of what House Republicans have been doing since Kevin McCarthy got the Speaker's gavel, after more than a dozen embarrassing rounds of votes where he wasn't successful. He was only voted in after myriad concessions to the hungriest wolves.
