Can the 2022 Rio de Janeiro government election be an answer for the corruption scandal in the past 20 years?
<p>Carnival, Rock in Rio, Pan American Games, Military World Games, Brazil’s Biggest Petrochemical complex construction, FIFA Confederations Cup, World Youth Day, World Cup, and Olympics. These are just some events that happened in Rio de Janeiro in the last twenty years. Although they were significant to Rio’s economic growth, they hid criminals in a big corruption scheme where millions of Brazilian Reais were embezzled.</p>
<p>On June 10, Rio de Janeiro experienced an unprecedented event since re-democratization: Wilson Witzel’s Impeachment. The former federal judge leaves office accused of deviations in Health amid the Covid-19 pandemic. At the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), he is responding to a similar criminal case, where he is accused of passive corruption and money laundering.</p>
