Common medical misunderstandings

I blame those high school biology classes that had me convinced that our bodies were as basic as a toddler’s toy set from Fisher-Price. You know, those colorful plastic contraptions with chunky buttons and simple levers that toddlers use to pretend they’re fixing a car or cooking dinner? Except instead of fixing cars or whipping up imaginary meals, we were led to believe that our bodies operated on the same level of simplicity. Like, press here for breathing, push there for digestion, and voilà, you’re good to go. I half expected to find a “Made in China” sticker on my kidney.

But it’s not about pushing buttons; it’s about biochemical reactions and cellular communications, and it’s much more complicated. So, for anyone else out there nodding along with my former misguided self, time to upgrade those brain cells.
