A Magical Night Under the Stars: My Experience at Yi Peng in Chiang Mai

The flights from Bangkok to Chiang Mai were short, but after a busy few days in the capital city, I was looking forward to calming down in Chiang Mai. As the jet touched down and I got in my first glance at the lush green mountains, I could feel the easygoing vibes of the city even before landing. I gathered my luggage and hopped in a songthaew, taking in the rural scenery out the window on the way into town.

Checking into my hotel in the Old City, I was captivated by the wonderful Lanna architecture all around. The rest of the afternoon was spent touring the winding roads, visiting temples, and checking out the small artisan shops. By dusk, I could feel myself unwinding in the leisurely pace of Chiang Mai. I turned in early, resting up for my main reason for going — to attend the spectacular floating lantern festival of Yi Peng the following night.
