Daily Encouragement: Quotes From my Buddhist Mentor

The grandest purpose I have chosen for myself is to be part of the magnificent history of creating peace on earth— a goal that might take more than one lifetime. Rather than focusing on the history of the world being a series of battles for domination of one people over another, I choose to be part of the opposite. There is a steady stream of people who are working for the inevitable establishment of peace — the great Peace March. Walking hand in hand with folks like Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Daisaku Ikeda, and many others. Good company indeed!

How I’ve chosen to participate is mainly to hack at the root cause of the problem rather than the leaves. The root of all evil is the greed, ignorance, and anger within all our lives. Starting with myself, I need to keep those qualities latent inside myself as much as possible with a strong spiritual practice — and share this ability with others. I create a ripple effect beginning from myself that spreads through my life to others and beyond.
