Where Did All of the Bathtubs Go?

Why is it so hard to find an apartment with a damn bathtub? I griped, as I searched listing after listing on Facebook Marketplace and Kijiji. One of the things I love about living in Montreal is the French architecture and design. I used to enjoy apartment hunting, years ago, when the rent average was $900 Canadian for a 2 or 3 bedroom dwelling, complete with that historic French moulding, hardwood floors, big old windows, and a cozy little balcony encased in an elaborate black metal railing.

Now, looking for a place is not only an exhausting chore where you are pitted against thousands of others fighting over a tiny amount of overpriced available housing, but many new and remodeled dwellings are also a depressing vision of the direction of our society.
