The paradox of autistic honesty

<p>Autistics tend to be pretty honest folk.</p> <p>Most of us find it difficult to tell outright lies. We feel compelled to tell the truth even when we know full well that doing so could get us into trouble. Consequently, we get ourselves into the kind of bother that those more adept at lying easily avoid. Its not necessarily that we see honesty as the best policy. Clearly in some cases it is not. It&rsquo;s more that we don&rsquo;t see lying as a particularly viable policy option for us. It feels too uncomfortable &ndash; like wearing a jumper made from scouring pads. We want to get things right, and therefore incline heavily towards precision and exactitude.
