AAPI Heritage Month: VRL salutes Asian American and Pacific Islander women who won U.S. elected office
<p>First some context: <a href="https://www.axios.com/2021/05/04/aapi-representation-elected-officials-leaders" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">As of 2021</a>, it was reported that AAPI officials of all genders make up less than 0.9% of elected leaders in the U.S., although this group accounts for 6.1% of the general population.</p>
<p><a href="https://cawp.rutgers.edu/facts/women-officeholders-race-and-ethnicity/asian-americanpacific-islander-women-elective-office" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">As of 2022</a>, data shows that Asian American and Pacific Islander women represent 6.7% of the women in Congress, 3.3% of all female state legislators, and 5% of mayors of the 100 largest U.S. cities.</p>
