As a migrant when you arrive in Melbourne, one of the first things you should do is to get a Victorian driving license. If your not living in CBD, a vehicle is a must have for you to survive. And with latest regulations (as at 2019-Dec), all overseas students/migrants need to get a Victorian driving license within a 6 month period from Sep-2019 (permanent residents within a 3 month period since arrival).
If you already have an overseas license, depending on the country, you might be able to easily convert your existing license to a valid Victorian driving license without facing any tests (how lucky !).
