Without Affirmative Action, Other Things Have to Come and Go As Well

In the ever-evolving landscape of higher education, one topic has recently taken center stage: affirmative action.

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision to end affirmative action in college admissions (together with the striking down of Biden’s student loan forgiveness program), a nationwide debate about what all of these mean for higher education is happening.

At its core, the affirmative action policy is created with good intentions. It’s designed to level the playing field for historically disadvantaged groups.

It was meant to reduce the discrimination experienced by marginalized groups, many of which had fewer opportunities due to the pervasive social-economic problems plaguing these historically disadvantaged groups.
