Young people, especially those from lower socio-economic standing are pushed to join the military, with promises of free healthcare and higher education to be paid for by the military funny enough. I think part of the reason that the government in the U.S. doesn’t do more to address these two factors is exactly this, to keep up recruitment numbers.
Something they don’t tell you is that once you’re enlisted you basically lose your rights as a citizen of the U.S. If you get injured for example you can be charged with “damaging government property”.
You also don’t have the same legal recourse as citizens do, cases you bring up will go before a military tribunal to be decided, not a regular court of law.
