The industry is very very, sadly job title-obsessed and Linkedin is likely a massive part of the root cause if not the main root cause.
We’ve all had that experience where one of our co-workers can’t shut up about who reports to who, who has a senior job title or what the org chart looks like. And in that process, they just act like this is the most important thing about a tech company.
Personally, I’ve been trying to not worry about my job title but sadly, it has harmed me, because the status-oriented sharks in each organization end up fighting for their status and job titles when I don’t and as a result, they end up being perceived as more “senior”. I hate that word so much.
Either way I’m taking a break from updating my Linkedin profile and I can’t recommend it enough.
