Understanding These 3 Laws Will Give You an Edge in Life

We’re constantly seeking ways to optimize our time and effort to achieve greater success in life. Putting 20 things on a to-do list everyday is pointless.

Streamline your efforts. With the number of daily distractions, starting with checking your phone first thing in the morning, it’s impossible to know what’s important. Everything seems urgent and important.

The following 3 principles when understood and applied….can change everything.

Pearson’s Law

States that “that which is measured improves, and that which is measured and reported improves exponentially.” So basically, what gets measured gets done.

This principle emphasizes the importance of setting clear, specific goals and tracking progress towards those goals.

So anything that can be measured and tracked…should be measured and tracked. Your weight, your credit score, your finances, etc. What you focus on expands.

Parkinson’s Law

States that “work expands to fill the time available for its completion.” This principle emphasizes the importance of setting deadlines for ourselves.

If you have 3 months to write a paper or complete a project, your brain tricks you into thinking you need all 3 months. At the 2 and a half month mark you start panicking and trying to slap something together.

Try to give yourself shorter deadlines and you’ll figure out a way to get it done. See if you can get that paper due in 3 months…done in 3 days. You always find a way when it matters.
