You Have to Take Ownership of Your Writing Career

The thing that stops writers from succeeding is that they get frustrated and quit. It’s not a lack of talent. I believe that talent is nothing more than a consequence of persistence. It’s not a lack of opportunity, there’s always time to write. Even if you only have one second to spare, it still counts.

Deciding whether or not to follow your calling is up to you. If you take five minutes every day to scribble down a poem on your way to work, you’re still a writer. If being a writer is what you want to do, then never stop.

You can’t blame editors for rejecting your work. You can’t blame the general public for failing to appreciate your story. You are entirely in control of your writing destiny, and the only thing that can stop you is quitting.
