I’m not from Mexico, but I’ve lived in this beautiful country for almost 3 years. Not being from here has given me a unique perspective on things that feel acutely “Mexican.” I imagine for Mexicans these four things below might just seem “normal.” It’s like the classic joke: Do Italians call Italian food…food? If it’s what you’re used to, if it’s what you’ve grown up with, you might not even notice how special it is. I’ve traveled to more than 50 counties. I haven’t been everywhere—but it’s on my list, as the saying goes.
