The Artist Who Doesn’t Call Herself an Artist
<p>I’m known on Medium for my essays about autism.</p>
<p>In the professional world, I’m known for my work with late-identified autistic as an art therapist.</p>
<p><strong>These things are lovely, but they’re not all that I am.</strong></p>
<p>Each of us holds multiple identities, and one of mine is artist. It feels weird to call myself an artist because it is so innate to who I am, giving it a title feels like separating it from myself.</p>
<p><strong>I’ve been drawing since I could hold markers in my hands.</strong></p>
<p>I’ve gone through different phases and mediums. At one point I made cartoons books. Then I focused on realistic acrylic paintings. Then I made giant abstract ones. Then I focused on magazine collages.</p>

<p><strong>Lately, I’ve been really into continuous line drawing.</strong> This is when I complete a drawing without picking up a pen. I love the flow of it and the messy look. I sometimes wonder if people can decipher what I created, or if they will see what I intended.</p>
<p>When I choose to share them, I also choose to let that concern go. I like to pair my essays with my art, and if you follow me, you’ve probably noticed many of my essays are accompanied by my continuous line art.</p>
