<p>Created in 1907 by Pablo Picasso, <em>Les Demoiselles d’Avignon</em> (<em>The Young Ladies of Avignon, </em>and originally titled<em> The Brothel of Avignon</em>) portrays five naked prostitutes from a brothel on <em>Carrer d’Avinyó</em> (Avinyó Street) in the city of Barcelona.</p>
<p>This is a proto-Cubist work considered to be strongly influencing in the early development of both Cubism and Modern Art movements.</p>
