“This seems Spanish to me” — or how my “Germanized” mentality shattered against Spanish reality. (English)
<p>In German, there is such an expression: “This seems Spanish to me” — it is applied to anything that is strange, illogical, or senseless. For more than 16 years, living in Germany, closely interacting with the Spanish community, I could never fully understand the meaning of this phrase. Until I moved to Spain.</p>
<p>I began learning Spanish language in my teenage years in Ukraine, and traveling extensively to Spain, I considered myself quite familiar with the culture of this country, and my mentality, as it seemed to me, harmoniously blended with the local one. Instead, German organization, precision, and perfectionism usually annoyed me and caused nervousity.</p>
