A review of four current articles in scientific journals

Reviewing the current issues of Science and Nature, I found four, interesting questions in contemporary science. The first is whether a rugged fitness landscape helps evolution. The second is whether magnetic fields are stronger than expected in their deflection of cosmic rays. The third is about the creation of sulfur isotopes in marine, sedimentary pyrite. The last question concerns the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In an incredible study, in Science, of Escherichia coli (E. coli), the team of Papkou et al. modified the bacteria, with clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR), to diversify the genes of the population. The team then simulated evolutionary dynamics on the bacteria to study, what is called in evolutionary theory, the fitness landscape of the bacteria.
