His name is derived from the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-European_language" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Proto-Indo-European</a> (PIE) root <em>*HreH-mó-s</em> meaning “dark-colored”. He is normally depicted with dark blue skin. The word is related to the Sanskrit रात्रि (<em>rā́tri</em>), “night”, from the same root.</p>
