As a Queer Person, Do People Challenge Your Self-Expression?

Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves. Whether it’s through clothing, hairstyle, tattoos, or makeup, we all show our individuality in various ways. Some expressions are subtle while others garner some reactions.

When I dyed my hair purple, my mom said blandly, “What made you decide to do that?”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

If you’ve ever dyed your hair colors like purple, pink, or blue, you know they don’t last long. Mine lasted a good month before it began to fade out. Even then, I was left with blond hair because my hair stylist bleached it before dying it. My point is it was temporary.
