Making Photographs in Pine Valley, California — It Was a Good Day

There could not have been a worse day for photography. Not in what I look for, anyway.

June 25… almost the longest day of the year, meaning more hours of bad light than good.

No clouds, hot, dusty, and the worst part of it was I had no time to scout the location at all.

I sat in the bright, colorless morning wondering how I was gonna pull this off. I was wondering whose bright idea it was to do this on this day.

It was, of course, mine.

I asked Bri if she wanted to make some photos and have a photo-making adventure in a little town called Pine Valley, California.

Since she lives in San Diego, it was about an hour and a half drive for her.

I came in from Phoenix, on a brutally hot day. It took me five hours and change.

I don’t mind driving. In fact, I love being on the road. Driving from one place to another is one of life’s little pleasures.
