I chose Marshall Field & Company’s flagship store on State Street in Chicago during the Christmas holidays in the ‘50s. What a delightful evening it would be! (In 2006 it was acquired by Macy’s, but this is my story, so let’s pretend, eh?)

First, I’m heading to The Walnut Room on the seventh floor! I had planned to go to Berghoff’s on the way back to my hotel, and the idea of chicken schnitzel with a side of spaetzle, and apple strudel for dessert, was teasing my tastebuds like a rattail comb taking on a '60s beehive. Well, that’s off the table (pun intended).
