Why Do All the Miss Universe Winners Look White?
<p>The annual Miss Universe competition just wrapped up this week, and every year, I find myself tuning in to the Miss Universe Thailand (MUT) competition that leads up to the world stage and the buzz surrounding it. Each year, I skim through the videos of contestants, observing their poise and elegance as well as the issues they stand for and the kind of people they are.</p>
<p>But why I also watch every year is that I’m secretly hoping that someone who is more representative of Thailand (essentially someone who isn’t white-passing), may one day take home the crown. That one day, we can stand for a more inclusive definition of beauty.</p>
