Rosenheim Mansion aka ‘Murder House’

Located at 1120 Westchester Place in the Country Club Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Rosenheim Mansion was designed by architect Alfred Rosenheim. Construction on the home began in 1902 and took more than five years to complete. The three-story red brick home on “Billionaire Row” boasts six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a detached cathedral ballroom, and a solarium. The interior features six Batchelder tile fireplaces, Tiffany & Co. stained and leaded glass, Peruvian mahogany paneling, and Italian brickwork.

Rosenheim and his family moved into the mansion upon its completion in 1908 and lived there happily for 10 years before selling the house to mining mogul A.J. McQuatters, who used it as his winter home. From 1930 to 1997 the Rosenheim Mansion was home to the Sisters of Social Service of L.A., a Catholic community. In 1954, the nuns added a 15-by-32-foot chapel with a 56-foot-high ceiling. On June 22, 1999, the Rosenheim Mansion was added to the Historical-Cultural Monument List by the City of Los Angeles.
