MAD Magazine vs. The NRA

It all starts with hunting. In 1957, MAD Magazine published the lyrics to Tom Lehrer’s “The Hunting Song” and embellished them with illustrations by George Woodbridge. Lehrer wastes no time getting to his point that hunting is a dangerous hobby. He introduces the story by saying that “Almost every day during the hunting season, you read at least one item in the newspapers concerning someone who has shot someone else, apparently under the impression that the latter was a deer with a red hat (or perhaps a large pink, casually-dressed squirrel.)”

Website
