<p>His father, Joseph Talese, was an Italian immigrant tailor who opened the Talese Town Shop in Ocean City. He was a man of meticulous work and enormous pride who often fell silent. He made his son understand there’s nothing wrong with long silences among men. What’s inexcusable is failing to pay proper attention to the work you do for a living.</p>
