Long Island Diocese high schools: We can never say ‘it is enough’ with racism
<p>My alma mater liked to quote Founding Sister Catherine McCauley — “We can never say ‘it is enough’” — and perhaps that’s true. But not when we’re talking about racism.</p>
<p>Last summer’s events surrounding the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor triggered memories of racism, and for Catholic high school alumni in the Long Island suburbs––specifically alumni of West Islip’s St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, Syosset’s <a href="https://www.change.org/p/administration-and-leadership-of-our-lady-of-mercy-academy-racial-justice-at-olma?recruiter=530104607&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_abi&utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&recruited_by_id=3a130150-06ff-11e6-a750-9bec2c65ed4f&utm_content=fht-22618823-en-us%3Av2" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Our Lady of Mercy Academy</a>, Hicksville’s <a href="https://www.change.org/p/holy-trinity-high-school-calling-on-holy-trinity-high-school-to-act-in-support-of-black-lives-matter" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Holy Trinity Diocesan High School</a> and South Huntington’s <a href="https://www.change.org/p/the-administration-of-st-anthony-s-high-school-make-st-anthony-s-an-anti-racist-high-school-d2208395-feb9-469b-a9b3-401cd25c0f1d" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">St. Anthony’s High School</a>––the nationwide protesting signaled a moment where we refuse to say ‘it is enough.’</p>
