My Little Pony: Genetics are Magic
<p>How is this possible? Well, apparently, according to Mr Cake, the Cakes have distant Pegasus and Unicorn relatives.</p>
<p>Let’s say that they both have regressive Pegasus and Unicorn genes (<em>pu</em>), because they both had Unicorn and Pegasus ancestors at one point.</p>
<p>Because the Pegasus and Unicorn genes are regressive, the magical features (<em>i.e.</em> wings and horn) do not develop.</p>
<p>However, Mr and Mrs Cake are fully capable of having offspring of all subspecies, because they have the genes of the two magical subspecies, and if their offspring has inherit both Unicorn and Pegasus genes, will become Earth Ponies.</p>
