Karen, Becky, and the Rest of Us White Women Have an Accountability Problem
<p>There has been a lot of chatter from us white women in recent years about male privilege, The Patriarchy, and toxic masculinity. While sometimes using these terms may have some merit, what we never talk about is the privilege that we as white women have in spades, our shortcomings, and how virtually none of us take any accountability for our own poor behavior.</p>
<p>Accountability is accepting responsibility for one’s actions, decisions, and resulting outcomes. It is a key attribute in creating harmonious social relationships and personal growth. It’s also a natural human tendency to deflect blame and externalize failures. We are all prone to passing the buck, but when we do it on a collective level, it stifles our own personal growth.</p>
