The Illusions and Perversions of Simon Sinek’s Radical Change and why we need more James Baldwin
<p>When we experience a crucible or some type of life-altering transformation, we both lose something about ourselves and gain something anew. No matter the circumstances, the transformation would be incomplete without reflecting upon the person we used to be and who we have become as we encounter these evolutionary moments in our lives. For me, these moments have strikingly, albeit unsurprisingly, occurred when I find that the authors whom I have long read, revered, and even promulgated in my own spheres no longer elicit the same inspiration, aspiration, or interests. It’s not to say that I have outgrown them or that they have entirely no benefit, but there are things in life you learn, perspectives that you gain, that completely and utterly alter the way in which you view the world. This becomes painstakingly apparent when lessons you once held sacred, and the authors who espoused them, come crashing down at the force and weight of failed opportunities to prove their worth in this new worldview.</p>
