Life Is Good Even When It Hurts

Gratitude does not seem to be only for those things that please me. There must be something more.

Can gratitude occur when life is pleasing or not, which we need to account for?

Is it extreme to go out on a limb and say life is good even when it hurts, and there is surrounding us an uproar?

I think we can say this is so if we view the grateful life as accepting all that we are, the whole of life, even when we find inside us and around us a bit of a war.

Accordingly, gratitude is a mother and father accepting their newborn with a failing heart, needing special care, with love and splendor.

They sacrifice much, receiving a blessing from the curse, a precious life, finding love and joy in their lives, a devoted mother and father, they rejoice and adore.

Many years have passed, the baby survives through it all, and the parents are infirm and not well, receiving the blessings from the curse once more as their grown child watches over them with honor and love evermore.

Do we not often have more than enough for our needs, “my cup runneth over,” needing to be grateful for the outpour?

Reality is what it is, and we are called not to groan but to live it the best we can with what we know, discovering and accepting our uniqueness obscured in the midst of the good and the bad, giving and receiving love, and letting ourselves explore.
