What was one of the major achievements of the Islamic Golden Age?
<p>Anyone who knows a little about history has probably heard of the Islamic Golden Age – that period from around the 8th to 13th centuries when the Muslim world was at its intellectual and cultural peak. But what exactly was it that made this era so significant? For me, one of the biggest accomplishments was how knowledge flourished and new fields of study were pioneered.</p>
<p>Growing up, I remember learning briefly in school about how medieval Europe went through something called the “Dark Ages.” Supposedly it was a time when very little progress was made in areas like science, philosophy, and medicine. But what I didn’t learn until much later was that while Europe was experiencing stagnation, the Islamic world was having a true Renaissance. Cities across the Muslim empire like Baghdad, Cairo, and Córdoba became major centers of learning that drew scholars from across the globe.</p>
