Social Media Is Distorting What You Think Human Faces Should Look Like In Real Life
<p>The average 40+ year-old believes themselves to be around <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2023/04/subjective-age-how-old-you-feel-difference/673086/#:~:text=The%20gulf%20between%20how%20old,younger%20than%20their%20actual%20age." rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">20%</a> younger than they actually are. That means I think I’m 32.</p>
<p>I rationally understand I’m not in my early thirties anymore. But honestly, I still expect my face to look that way.</p>
<p>Catching myself in the mirror these days is a shock. I have eye bags that appeared during the sale of my business three years ago and never had the decency to disappear. I have a double chin. My skin has a ruddiness to it.</p>
<p>My mirror doesn’t have a social media-approved filter on it, so I’m forced to look at a face that is at least 5 years older than I think it should look.</p>
