Thought herding

These are the eight worldly winds. They blow back and forth and liable to change direction at any moment. Sometimes the wind is in your sails, and you feel invincible; and other times it’s blowing against you and you feel defeated.

Don’t worry too much about what others think because that changes like a breeze. Only have concern for what you think. Other people’s thoughts are their kamma. They don’t have to be yours.

Be like a broken gong when it comes to the opinions of the world. The words might strike the mind, but don’t let them reverberate inside it. Let worldly opinions be like water falling off a duck’s back. Perceive the voice of a worldling as being like the wind blowing through the leaves of a tree or the strange vocalisations of a creature that arises and ceases. Just a sound, nothing more.
