My son’s disability is very rare, the gist of his story started at an after-hour pediatrician appointment on October 12, 2007. The unbearable reason for the appointment was that he lost his ability to speak. The anniversary of that October day haunts me with a vengeance all the way through to the New Year, but the grief surrounding the anniversary is not why I struggle through the holidays, rather the challenge is watching my son’s brain try to sort itself out amidst the chaos.
