The Fragmented Mind

My son’s disability is very rare, the gist of his story started at an after-hour pediatrician appointment on October 12, 2007. The unbearable reason for the appointment was that he lost his ability to speak. The anniversary of that October day haunts me with a vengeance all the way through to the New Year, but the grief surrounding the anniversary is not why I struggle through the holidays, rather the challenge is watching my son’s brain try to sort itself out amidst the chaos. People, action, lights, and gifts surround him, as his disabled brain struggles to connect the synapses, neurons, and axons.
