What Exactly is Mindfulness, Anyway?

<p>We&rsquo;ve all seen the headlines encouraging us to &ldquo;be mindful,&rdquo; &ldquo;cultivate mindfulness,&rdquo; and &ldquo;practice mindfulness&rdquo; in various aspects of our lives, such as &ldquo;mindful eating&rdquo; and &ldquo;mindful shopping,&rdquo; &ldquo;mindful breathing,&rdquo; and so on. Despite these frequent mentions, the fundamental question remains: What exactly is mindfulness?</p> <p>My initial encounter with mindfulness was in 2013, around the birth of my daughter. While I was in the throes of postpartum anxiety, someone introduced me to the concept as an effective means to help me cope. I was introduced to the book&nbsp;<a href="https://amzn.to/3RLskr4" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn</a>&nbsp;and haven&rsquo;t looked back.
