Embracing Age Limitations and Looking Up

As a child, I was no stranger to optimism. My imagination and curiosity were my most trusted companions and often led me to daring explorations and uncharted territories. Not undiscovered, just unknown places for me.

The world in which I lived was my playground and I had an endless supply of opportunities to mettle in, unlike my adult self that if given the chance my mind would persistently remind me of my shortcomings and cast shadows of doubt over almost any undertaking I may be considering.

For instance, at the age of 9 my cousin and I thought we could reach China via a water hose. It seemed possible at the time. All we had to do was turn the water on full blast and hold it to the ground and watch it continue to disappear on its own. How far could it be anyway? Of course, when it reached the end, there was no pulling it out, and thus my father would have to cut the hose at ground level. He wasn’t happy about the loss of his hose.
