ELEVATOR MUSIC

I’ve always hated love triangles. The complex plot of one person liking another, who likes another, ticked me off. My sister, Rebecca asked me this question when she was just 16: “Sister Flo, “why do we love people who don’t love us back?”. That question also haunted me at the time. I was 22 and had my fair share of disappointments, so I couldn’t answer her question. I’m thirty-four and unfortunately I still cannot answer that question.

You would imagine that I avoid books or movies or even series about them. The same for stories revolving around the ones that got away, or unrequited love; particularly when the protagonist suffers some emotional or mental impediment that prevents them from being able to freely feel love or be vulnerable. People who have built walls around their hearts as protection, so that they do not have to feel pain. The problem is that those walls inevitably become prisons.

Website
