Don’t Call Me Special
<p>A gust of fresh air fills my lungs every time I hear conversations about inclusivity and equity. Indeed, we’ve come a long way as a society, but it seems like every step forward is coupled with the reluctance to shed the traditional yet harmful language about people with disabilities. I was born with a congenital condition which leaves me dependent on my wheelchair for getting around.</p>
<p>I want to discuss why calling people with disabilities “special” is not as benevolent as it seems.</p>
