DGB’s Demo Showcase: Fall 2023 Next Fest Edition: Sports Games

Heya folks, Shaun here, and I’m back with issue #2 of my Fall Next Fest Showcase! For this one, I decided to feature some of my favorite Sports games, and no, these won’t be your typical sports games either. I’ve found some pretty unique games to feature in this article and I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did. With our introductions out of the way, let’s get this showcase started!

Demo #1: Art of Golf by Birdie Games

For our first sports game, I decided to boot up an upcoming physics based 2D golf game called Art of Golf.

Art of Golf is a 2D physics based game about golf. The game has a ton of different game modes to choose from, but much of the game is locked and will be in the full version.

The demo features 3 major game modes, Journey, Tournaments and Sports, each with a single level to play through. For this article I played through all 3 game modes and I thought it was pretty cool how the Sports section of the game mode has different kinds of golf, like Disc Golf for example.

The game also features some gorgeous minimalist backgrounds that are both scenic, and great to look. Gameplay wise, it’s much like any physics based golf game where you use the mouse to pull back a swing then release to hit the ball. It’s worth mentioning that while in fullscreen mode, it was often difficult to line up a swing and hit with full power, especially on hole that are closer to your monitor’s bezel than others, because your mouse can’t go outside that boundary in fullscreen mode. This wasn’t an issue in windowed mode, however.
